I ended up going with the Brother NX400, which was my initial choice. There were many reasons why this was my first choice, but I did feel that I should try at least one other machine out before making my decision. However, in the end, the only other machine I ended up trying was another Brother. I'm still feeling a bit 'wobbly' about this, but in the few days I've been using this machine, I am already thrilled with it.

It's had a busy few days - I've made two pairs of shorts for the boys, and a new dress for Lucy. I love the automatic threading & the thread cutter, and the buttonholes were a breeze. Some bits will take some getting used to - not overly excited by the reverse button - don't like it's position, and boy is it slow (reversing). The needle is programmed to stitch on the left, which I don't like (& don't understand), but I can change the default setting for that.

Something tells me that this will be a very successful new friendship :-)

Its lovely and you deserve it!
ReplyDeleteOoh that is a nice buttonhole! Let us know more about it as you go because I know you will really put it through its paces. Modern machines scare me a little but I accept I may go there some day, and I like to stay informed :)
ReplyDeleteThey scare me too - and in reality, I don't need most of the functions - just something that produces reliably good stitches. I'll keep you posted
DeleteGlad that you're getting to know your new your sewing machine and that you're liking it! That's one perfect buttonhole.;)
ReplyDeleteNew machines do some getting used to. For me the true test of a machine is the buttonhole, so it looks like your machine passes the test!
ReplyDeleteHave fun playing with your new toy!
How exciting!!
ReplyDeleteOoh! Ooh! New toy! My machine has a weird reverse button too, but then it turns out I rarely need reverse, bc it also has a "stitch lock" button that you can turn on to automatically lock stitches at the beginning and end of a seam ...
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, thanks - shall investigate that as the reverse button is rather silly :-)
