Fails

I've had a few fails lately....and can't find the motivation to spend the time and sort them out, so they are hanging around, making me feel guilty, and stopping me from really starting much else (I like to finish one thing before starting the next project)

So, what are they?

Lucy's Christmas dress - an O+S Family Reunion dress. Really sad about this - the fabric I used (the little floral print from Creative Thursday's 'The Gang's All Here') was bought specifically for this dress, and it has taken me so long to get to it. This was my first time making this pattern, and I failed to read the directions properly - I made perfect tiny pin tucks - but they are supposed to be quite large pintucks (1/4"), and therefore the neck facing will not fit (& nor will it fit on Lucy's skinny shoulders!). Solution - quality time with my unpicker. Motivation - none.

Next - the Anya Tunic from Green Bee patterns. This is the third one of their patterns I've used, and while the directions are not O+S, the others, including the matching shorts from this pattern, came together easily. This, however, has not.... Solution - some fiddling and restitching. Motivation - none.

And lastly, a Renfrew top for myself. Not a pattern problem - rather, I really need to learn that cheap knits are a waste of time and money (mind you, it was $12/m, so not even that cheap). The top fits well and looks quite nice (& is a perfect colour match for my 'Deb' skirt), but the stretched neckline looks dreadful, it's off the grain and I don't think it's really worth spending precious sewing time to finish it. (Plus, I am always in two minds about sewing this type of clothing anyway - tshirts are just so cheap to buy). Solution - throw it in the bin!

I do feel that I need to sort these out before starting any further projects - but so uninspired....

  1. I hate that! Don't bother fixing the knit top. Not worth it. But the other two you should. Get a glass of wine and your seam ripped and do it. You'll feel so much better. That being said, I almost tossed my music class blouse over cuff that weren't perfect.

  2. I feel you! I hate the seam ripper and mine end up getting set aside until they are outgrown... Hope you can find the motivation:)

  3. Poor you!
Mail me the dress and I will fix it.
I will send you my next stuff up if that makes you feel better?

  4. Anything that needs to be ripped out, quickly loses my interest too. Hope your mojo returns!

  5. I say set them aside and make a couple easy things and then go back to these. Or, take Nicole up on her offer!

  6. Yep, bin that top, or if it makes you feel any better, cut it up and use it for cleaning rags... as for the dresses, I think even unpicking can be almost soothing and quite satisfying if approached in the right frame of mind. We'll all be waiting for the "they're fixed" post, haha!

  7. What you need is some quality trash on tv, a bucket of tea and a block of chocolate. That ought to make the unpicking pretty pleasant!

  8. I'm horrible at finding the motivation to fix failed projects. I'm embarrassed to say (because it's so wasteful) but at some point I tend to end up throwing them away because otherwise they just taunt me.

  9. The pink tunic top is finished, knit top is binned, and I shall take Claire's advice and unpick with tea and chocolate!
