And so, despite it being December & therefore a crazy time of year, I really wanted to have a party at home.
Friday, my actual birthday, was fairly low key. I had brunch with a friend (we share birthdays!), afternoon tea at mum & dad's, and then they and my FIL had dinner at ours - homemade pizza (by the kids), and cake by mum!

Saturday was party day, so was busy, but not overly so. Most of the prep work was already done (thanks Dad). The guest list was small, as I didn't know what state our backyard would be in. Still had 30+ adults and about 15 kids.

It was a lovely afternoon, and I truly appreciate just how lucky I am to have such special people in my life.
....several of those people also know me very well - there was a definite theme to my pressies:

And in true 40th birthday fashion (they seem to go on for ever!), tomorrow night I'm going out for dinner with my girlfriends - perfect way to end the year, I think!

Happy birthday Justine! 40 is not so bad, I think the anticipation is worse than the reality :) Who made the darling little 'JJ40' machine?
ReplyDeleteRosie made that - it was the present that went missing the night before! Isn't it fab?
DeleteHappy Birthday! Did I spy you wearing your finished Chantilly? Though I am not 40 yet, I too still feel 27 :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I finished my Chantilly! Will blog it soon.
DeleteThink it's time to revise my mental age - maybe 32??!
Yes I spotted the Chantilly too! Looks like you had a great day. I have to ask.... how many cakes did you have?!
ReplyDeleteTwo cakes - traditional family birthday cake made by mum on my actual birthday, and a (huge) Icecream cake at my party :-)
DeleteThat's my kind of birthday :)
